Emotional CPR Training

E-CPR, or Emotional-Crisis Prevention and Response, serves as a compassionate approach to supporting individuals navigating emotional distress. Much like the widely recognized concept of physical CPR, E-CPR provides a method for instructing people on providing crucial assistance during challenging emotional periods. In the current landscape dominated by the ongoing challenges of COVID, there is a heightened need to revive and restore our emotional CPR, addressing the emotional well-being of individuals in distress. This innovative concept draws inspiration from the experiences of individuals like Daniel Fisher, who have not only survived but thrived on the journey of recovery from emotional distress. Their invaluable insights emphasize the significance of understanding and meeting emotional needs during difficult times.

The E-CPR program is designed to be accessible and impactful, comprising three 4-hour classes led by a knowledgeable instructor. These sessions guide participants through each step of the program, empowering them with the skills to help others and themselves with emotional challenges. Recognizing the diverse nature of those seeking support, E-CPR is not only inclusive of individuals of all ages but also extends its reach to French-speaking participants. In essence, E-CPR is comprehensive and accessible resource, fostering emotional resilience and empowering individuals to help each other navigate emotional well-being with compassion and understanding.

Three Elements of E-CPR

Connecting

Connecting involves cultivating an accepting, and non-judgmental presence when interacting with others, forming relationships grounded in mutual trust and respect. The emphasis is on establishing connections at a deeper, heartfelt level, prioritizing being with the person in distress rather than merely doing things to or for them.

emPowering

Empowerment is a skill crafted to guide individuals facing distress or emotional crisis in rediscovering their passion and inner strength to lead a more fulfilling life. Through collaborative connection, where assistance is provided with wonder and curiosity, those in distress begin to recognize their own capacity to heal and make decisions.

Revitalizing

Revitalization unfolds as individuals feel liberated to express their emotions and aspirations. This newfound freedom allows them to engage more deeply in meaningful relationships, countering the fears, loneliness, or loss of meaning often at the heart of crises.

Key Principles of E-CPR

  • I will connect through feelings first, respecting you as equally human by listening with my eyes, ears, heart, and respect.
  • I will hold space for my first feelings, allow them to resonate inside and become aware of my broader feelings/thoughts.
  • I will share my broader feelings/thoughts and stay with you.
  • I WILL BE WITH YOU without fixing, judging, or advising you.
  • I am not sure what is best for you; together we explore the unknown.
  • Together, we release the power to heal that lies within us – moving towards our wellness.
  • We authentically create new life, new voice, and new hope in the present moment, which is revitalizing.
